Description
What is L-Arabinose?
L-arabinose, also known as left-handed arabinose, is a monosaccharide belonging to the pentose class. It exists naturally in plants such as corn cobs and corn husks. It takes 30 tons of corn cobs to produce 1 ton of L-arabinose. Its sweetness is 60% of that of sucrose, and it has a pure and mild sweetness and produces almost no calories.
L-Arabinose is a plant-based, naturally occurring, 5-carbon monosaccharide that acts as a non-caloric sweetener and inhibitor of sucrose, preventing blood sugar spikes and offering benefits for weight loss and diabetes management. It is found in plant gums and fibers and is used in functional foods and beverages for its ability to modulate blood glucose and insulin responses. In addition to its health applications, L-arabinose is vital in microbiology as a carbon source for bacteria and in biomedicine for regulating gene expression and drug delivery research.
