Sodium Hypochlorite

Sodium Hypochlorite

Description

Sodium Hypochlorite has a characteristic chlorine odor. It has a straw-yellow or yellow-green color. Sodium Hypochlorite is produced industrially by electrolysis of brine, which produces sodium hydroxide and chlorine. The chlorine then reacts with the hydroxide to form Sodium Hypochlorite and sodium chloride.

Sodium Hypochlorite has oxidizing, corrosive, antiseptic and bactericidal properties. In its pure form, this compound is very unstable, so only its aqueous solution is sold or used.

Physical and chemical characteristics Value

Sodium Bromate < 2.5 g/kg

The storage period of Sodium Hypochlorite is up to 2 years from the date of production.

Salsal Trading S.A. supplies its Business Partners with Sodium Hypochlorite in IBC containers or tank trucks.

Sodium Hypochlorite is used in the processing of fruit, vegetables and cereal grains. Its fungicidal and bactericidal effect is used to wash fruit and vegetables after harvesting. Sodium Hypochlorite is also used in the production of modified starch – potato starch is treated with Sodium Hypochlorite to produce oxidized starch E1404, which is used as a food additive.

Sodium Hypochlorite is also widely used for disinfection and water treatment as it eliminates fungi and pathogenic bacteria. In horticulture, it protects fruit trees and vines from disease. Sodium Hypochlorite is also a bleaching agent in the paper and textile industry, helping to optimize the appearance of products by effectively oxidizing lignin and removing impurities.
