Formic acid occurs as a liquid, colorless to yellow with a pungent odor. It is very soluble in water. Formic acid is corrosive and very volatile with strong fungicidal properties.

The shelf life of formic acid is 36 months. The Formic Acid product should be stored in a cool and dry place (below 20°C), away from alkaline and alkalizing substances.

As a food additive, formic acid is used in food preservation to extend shelf life. It is found as an ingredient in juices, marinades, smoked fish, and vegetable and fruit purees, and as an antioxidant.
In the chemical industry, E236 is a valued chemical reagent. It is often used in fungicides, in leather production, and in fabric dyeing. Formic acid is also used in animal feed as an acidulant.
