Description
Glutathione is a substance made from the amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. It is produced by the liver and involved in many body processes.
Glutathione is involved in tissue building and repair, making chemicals and proteins needed in the body, and in immune system function.
Glutathione is an antioxidant found in plants, animals, fungi, and some bacteria and archaea. Glutathione can prevent damage to important cell components from sources such as reactive oxygen species, free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals. As an antioxidant in animal cells, it exists inside water-filled cells and protects DNA from oxidation. Glutathione exists in the human body in two forms, one is reduced form and the other is oxidized form. Spinach contains glutathione.
