Description

Modified starch (Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate) is a white powder with a typical starch odor. It is produced by treating natural starch with propylene oxide and phosphoric acid or phosphorus oxychloride. Modified starch dissolves in hot water and swells in cold or warm water. Additionally, it is resistant to high temperatures and has very good freezing and thawing properties.

Modified starch is used as a stabilizer, thickener, binder and emulsifier. It is a gluten-free and non-GMO substance.

The shelf life of modified starch is up to two years if the product is stored in a dry, ventilated warehouse.

Salsal Trading SA supplies its Business Partners with modified starch in 25 kg bags.

Modified starch is mainly used as a stabilizing and thickening agent. In the production of sauces and fillings for fruit cakes, it acts as a thickener, creating gels without the need for heating. In the dairy industry, it is used in the production of cottage cheese, cream, yogurt and ice cream, giving the products a viscous consistency. Additionally, E1442 is present in many canned fish, vegetables and fruits. It is also used in frozen products, such as ice cream or ready meals, thanks to its excellent freeze-drying properties, which maintain flavor, uniform texture and color after defrosting and re-freezing.

Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate is also used in cosmetics. It gives products a thicker, smoother consistency, making them easier to apply. In addition, its ability to bind water can help moisturize the skin and hair. It is mild to use and can be used in various cosmetics, such as creams, lotions, makeup or hair care products.
