What is Star Anise Extract？

Star anise extract is a natural ingredient derived from the star-shaped fruit of the Illicium Verum plant, primarily valued for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and sebum-normalizing properties, making it a common ingredient in skincare products designed for acne-prone skin. It contains shikimic acid and acts to reduce excessive sebum production, inhibit bacterial growth (specifically Propionibacterium acnes), lessen inflammation, and combat oxidative stress. Shikimic Acid is extracted from dried fruit/seed of Illicium Verum, which is commonly called star anise or staranise. Shikimic acid powder is white powder, soluble in water(18% in 20℃ water) and insoluble in organic solvent.
